Atomic structure and bonding

Read what Chemguide has to say about atomic orbitals and electrons in atoms, and look at this image which summarises the shapes of the s, p and d orbitals.

Finally, I said the f orbitals were complicated: these pictures will prove I wasn't kidding!  If you're still curious, this site allows you to rotate the orbitals and look at them from all kinds of different directions (but it takes a little while to load, so be patient).

Enthalpy

If you're looking for some extra revision, you can revise Enthalpy and Hess's Law with S-cool.

Periodic Trends

These pages contain information about the chemistry of Group 1, Group 2, Group 4 and Group 7 elements, and this one is about the chemistry of Period 3

You can also revise Periodicity with S-cool.

General Chemistry

- S-Cool AS & A2 Chemistry
- Creative Chemistry, AS A2
- Doc Brown's Chemistry

- Revision-notes.co.uk

- Chemguide
- Organic reaction mechanisms

And Wikipedia has some excellent, general Chemistry reading including sections on 'Atoms', 'Nomenclature' and 'Bonding' as well as the very interesting 'History of Chemistry'.

Atoms and Moles

Revise Atoms, Molecules and Stoichiometry (including moles):
S-Cool Chemistry revision

Balancing equations

Practice balancing equations with ChemBalancer.
Read all about how to balance chemical equations and try lots of online examples.

Organic Chem (Chains and Rings)

Use this activity page on alkanes to understand the relationship between chain length and boiling point (Choose 'save as' when prompted and save the file into your filespace before starting. The same page is also available as a pdf file, just in case you have any problems with Word.)

This page has a useful table of data on alkanes.
You should also read what Chemguide has to say about alkanes...

Read up on how to name organic compounds, from ChemGuide.
Wiki also has a very clear guide to organic nomenclature.
They invented it, now read IUPACs guidance on naming organic compounds.

Drink up this infromation about alcohols from S-Cool and try these questions on aliphatic compounds in general

Play Oil Strike! You have been drafted in as the new Managing Director of an oil exploration company. You have 8 months to get the oil pumping out and the money rolling in...

Use S-Cool to read up on haloakanes, then try some multiple-choice questions

Quiz yourself on the topics covered by the Chains and Rings exam paper (has a particularly useful quiz on Reagents and Conditions).

More generally, read what ChemGuide has to say about Organic Chemistry or get some Organic Chemistry Help from Frostburg State University.

Use these interactive tutorials to revise the organic reactions of alkenes:
Alkenes 1
Alkenes 2
Alkenes 3
(See the Curly Arrows home page for instructions and more information)

Periodicity

Period 3
- Find out about the structures and properties of the period 3 elements.
- Read about the trends across period 3.
- Look at a table of all the trends of period 3.
- Try some quizes on the period 3 elements.
- Read about the reactions of period 3 with oxygen, chlorine and water.
- Read about the reactions of period 3 chlorides with water.

And for some useful information about periodicity in general, watch this PowerPoint presentation.
